News from Riga

At the beginning of April, pupils from the Secondes 1, 3 and 6 took part in the „Comenius” project in Latvia. During this 10-day trip we were able to discover Riga, the capital of this Baltic state and use our English.
Upon our arrival at the airport, our pen-friends and their families gave us a very warm welcome and drove us to their homes.
The following morning we all met at our pen-friends’ school, Klasika, where we attended the official opening ceremony, during which both of our countries and our cultures were celebrated. Then, the teachers from Klasika gave us Russian and Latvian lessons. After a rushed lunch, we went on a bus tour around a snowy Riga. The families then took us back to their homes to spend the evening with them.
On Tuesday, we had a look around Lāči, a traditional bakery where we even made our own loaves. In the afternoon, we went around the Ethnographic Open-Air museum and we had the opportunity to make a soap tray out of clay. We then ended these two days with a disco at the school.
Today, we are going to attend an organ concert at the Dome Cathedral and visit St Peter’s Church before finishing the day off with a bit of shopping in the center of Riga.
We will be delighted to tell you the next part of the exchange in the next issue of the Kelou.

BEST WISHES ON THE 20TH  ANNIVERSARY OF KLASIKA FROM FRANCE

Klasika school has been our Comenius partner in a project entitled « Crossing Cultures » for almost a year and we are very proud of this partnership. Thanks to a year-long intense work produced by our two schools. We have also had the chance and the honour to spend ten days at Klasika during our mobility to Latvia last April. As a result of the commitment of first-class teachers led by an outstanding coordinator, Mrs Jelena Kornejeva and the dedication of all the students - we were introduced to a fascinating new country.
We can only congratulate the whole school : head-mistress, coordinator, teachers, staff and students of all ages for their contribution to a successful mobility. We also wish them more success and the best of  luck for the years to come. Let us hope that the strong links we have established remain for a long time.

OUR WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES ON THIS 2OTH ANNIVERSARY.

Sylvie Lissillour (French coordinator)

The Comenius Project with Latvia

This year, one class of Seconde with the European option is participating in a Comenius exchange Project with Latvia. Each pupil will be writing to a student from Riga with whom they’ll spend ten days in April 2013. We’ll take the plane and fly across Europe to land in Latvia. We will visit the capital and its surrounding area and discover a new way of life. An evening at the National Opera is also scheduled. Our pen-pals will show us their school where we will be invited to learn Latvian and Russian. One of their English teachers and their Headmistress, Elena and Svetlana came to see us and present the Project. They will come back in September 2013.

The aim of this exchange is to improve our English skills, to discover a new culture and a new country and its people, for the Latvians as well as the Bretons. Throughout the year, to prepare the trip, we will examine a wide range of topics so that we can better present France and its culture. Our current theme is “Daily life”, and the next topic will be “History and traditions”. We will research and present these subjects through posters or slideshows. We will be able to communicate with our pen-pals by video-conference as of December. We can’t wait until April!
